Dr. Herweg graduated from the University of Essen in Germany in 1988. He
immigrated to the US in 1991 and completed postgraduate training in
Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Clinical Cardiac
Electrophysiology in New York City. He graduated as an
Electrophysiologist from Montefiore Medical
Center, the birth place of cardiac pacing in the US. He
worked as a postdoctoral research scientist in the Department
of Pharmacology at Columbia University in New York performing
research on atrial fibrillation and cardiac memory in animal models.
During a two year tenure at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital
Center in New York he gained experience in advanced ablative
therapy of atrial fibrillation. He was the Director of the
Electrophysiology and Arrhythmia Service at the University of South
Florida from 7/2002 to 6/2008 as well as the founding
Director of the USF Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program
from 7/2006 to 7/2008. He was promoted to Associate Professor
of Medicine in 6/2007. Dr. Herweg has published 48 peer
reviewed journal articles, 14 book chapters, 45 abstracts and
monographs. He has presented and lectured at national and
international meetings. He is a highly experienced clinician
and arrhythmologist.
